Studies of Positive Radical Acceleration on Mice

Abstract

|
A total of 191 normal adult male and female mice, ranging in weight from 17 to 30 grams, were exposed to relatively large positive acceleration. The behavior, the 100°o survival curve, the 100 %fatal curve, the dangerous zone, the mortality, sexual differences in the resistance and the effects of anti-g suits (by water) were examined on mice.
An electric centrifuge was used for centrifuging the animal. The centrifuge, with an arm radius of 16 cm, attained a maximum acceleration of 320 g within twenty seconds. Speed of rotation was held constant within 2 per cent as measured by a RPM contact tachometer.
